The security of your private information is very important to us. Security State Bank of Kenyon will never provide your confidential information to any source not affiliated with the bank. We will also never ask you for personal information through e-mail.

What is Identity theft?

Identity theft occurs when someone uses your name, address, Social Security number (SSN), bank or credit card account numbers, passwords, or other personal information without your knowledge to commit fraud or other crimes. While on-line banking and e-commerce are very safe with built-in security features for your protection, to avoid identity theft you should always be careful about responding to unsolicited requests for your personal financial information  via the Internet, email, phone or mail.

One of the most common forms of stealing your banking account information is through a process called "Phishing". This is a scam that uses email to deceive you into disclosing personal information.

How to spot Phishing.

It's easy to spot a scam... if you know what to look for.

The email and linking Website may appear authentic.   

  • The email and linking Website may appear authentic.
  • It may look just like our Website.
  • It may ask you to "update" or "validate" your account information!.
  • Often it will threaten some consequence if you don't respond. These are clear indicators that someone is "Phishing" for your information.

Steps to avoid being Phished.

If you receive a suspicious email from Security State Bank of Kenyon or any other financial entity requesting personal information such as Social Security number, bank and credit card numbers, user names and passwords, follow these important guidelines:

  • Do not reply to the email, even if it appears urgent.
  • Do not use the links from the email to open any Web page.
  • Alert Security State Bank of Kenyon immediately. Don't call any phone numbers appearing on the email.

If you do receive an e-mail that asks you to confirm financial transactions, provide or confirm sensitive information (such as passwords or sign-on IDs), or personal information (such as social security numbers, credit card numbers or personal bank account numbers), please assume that the request is fraudulent.

Some e-mails, links or Web sites may even include the Security State Bank of Kenyon logo or resemble existing Security State Bank of Kenyon sign-on pages.  Despite the graphics, you should continue to assume that the request is fraudulent because Security State Bank of Kenyon will never contact you by e-mail to request or confirm personal or sensitive account information.

If you receive e-mail requests to visit a Web site or to submit personal information, consider them fraudulent or notify Security State Bank of Kenyon.  We strongly recommend that you do not visit the site, submit your personal information via the site, e-mail or respond in any way.
